Stereotypical tears- An initiative cum campaign that aims to question and break down the prevalent stereotypes in the society, that have plagued the lives of many.
Stereotypes are a major problem in our society. They put labels on how a person should act or live according to his/her sex, race, age, personality, or based on other circumstances. This could affect individuals who would perhaps prefer different things or undertake different activities, but feel ashamed to do so due to societal stereotypes.
Stereotypes have created distortions in the life of every individual. For instance, our thought process is that men are the primary bread earners and women are only good as home-makers, or men are passionate about sports while women only show interest in watching soap operas, or that women are not as strong as males. The list goes on and on. These are among the most common stereotypes existing in our society.
We, as part of the generation Y, should know how these stereotypes could affect us as individuals. We should learn not to judge or prejudge people, and not make opinions of what they might be like. We should change our point of view about the stereotypes that are deeply rooted in our society.
Our agenda is to break the cycle of the stereotypes that act as a hindrance in developing a Maverick Society. We need a society that accepts individuality and believes in the idea of accepting individual preferences and choices.
The socially constructed discrimination related to gender, caste, race, physical characteristics, and sexual orientation is rotting our minds to the core. It is hampering the development of mindsets of people. We, with this initiative, want to change the thinking of the society and create a platform where these stereotypes can be questioned and rectified.

For far too long men have perceived feminism as an ideology that excludes men from its
purview and is somehow aimed against them. They accuse feminists of being hostile, short
sighted men bashers without understanding the context and history of feminism as a
movement. This alienation has made even those men who could be potential allies of
women empowerment unable to acknowledge their own agency as feminists.
In Kashmir, one is particularly hard pressed to find stories of men who are enabling women to break gender stereotypes in work and culture. FEMP aims to acknowledge, honour and integrate all those men who have been working towards gender equality without recognising it as such. This will encourage more Kashmiri men and women to emulate these stories in their own lives while bridging the gap between the intellectual and practical realm of feminism.
Objectives, reasons and methodology behind FemP:
WHAT: The project aims to locate and identify men and women in and the around the peripheries of Kashmir who are inadvertently working as feminists in their professional and personal lives. This will include profiling these people and create a network to facilitate exchange of ideas and resources. Individual stories of the people profiled will be complied into a book about their personal journeys as gender equality activists. The recognised participants will then be felicitated in honour of their work and contribution. The participants will further be divided into self help groups which can work together to promote gender equality in their areas.
WHY: This project is needed to expand the domain of feminism beyond elite, women specific groups to include people who may not be acquainted with the ideology of feminism, but who are true practitioners and promoters of gender equality in their work and lives. The project will also serve as a distinct reminder to be wary of tagging certain groups and communities as patriarchal and biased while highlighting individuals from within these groups who break patriarchal norms.
HOW: The project will be implemented through reaching out to all the districts of Kashmir for organising a state level conference inviting feminism practitioners to honour them and introduce them to the idea of feminism not as an abstract concept they are excluded from, but a way of life that is already being practised and promoted by them.
Stears is an organisation based on the concept of creating awareness about cultural, social, and gender
stereotypes and how these effectively limit individual and community growth. This platform engages
with marginalized people who have been ostracised and labelled unacceptable by mainstream society
because of their choices in terms of their sexual orientation, gender identity, religious or cultural
preferences. We collect and create stories from these people through the medium of surveys, online
and on ground campaigns and then share them as widely as possible so that we may unlearn
preconceived notions and create spaces for awareness and growth.
To achieve this end, the organisation aims to-
Undertake a comprehensive research programme to identify the problems in the educational system wherein a gap exists.
Evolve and implement educational and cultural programmes for the under privileged/marginalised sections of society.
Run reading rooms, libraries and educational centres to generate social awareness.
Arrange for financial assistance to needy students for their education.
Produce and distribute educational aids, films, books, slides on gender sensitisation, comprehensive sexuality education and abuse awareness.
Encourage voluntary action by sensitizing the youth and students of schools, colleges and universities and other social groups and formulate the programmes of interaction among them towards understanding the need for social work and eradication of social stigma, taboos and stereotypes.
Involve students in awareness programmes for community development in schools, colleges and in other educational and work places.
Build capacities of existing educational institutions by training of trainers.
Create awareness about the problems and rights of women and LGBTQ people under national and international laws.
Provide legal aid and guidance to the victims of domestic violence, harassment and child sexual abuse.
Work for the economic independence of widows, women living in urban slums and women living in rural areas through skill development.
Conduct a systematic research programme on various schemes provided by different government agencies and their impact on ground, with a vision of scaling up their existing impact by necessary interventions
